“Benesse Art Site” refers to a series of museums and artistic interventions scattered on the islands of Naoshima, Teshima, and Inujima in Japan. Bringing together new architectural projects by the likes of Tadao Ando and Ryūe Nishizawa with artworks staged in reconverted traditional houses and other ‘found spaces’, the “Benesse Art Site” creates an archipelago – both literal and metaphorical – of site-specific artworks by Christian Boltanski, Walter De Maria, Shinro Ohtake, Yayoi Kusama, Claude Monet, Bruce Nauman, Hiroshi Sugimoto, James Turrell, Lee Ufan, and many others, disseminated amidst the spectacular landscapes and vistas of the Seto Inland Sea region.
